Holland America Line

Just saw a presentation on how the Holland America line has choosen Sumtotal to support its learning. I was amazed about the complexity of regulations the cruise ships have to deal with. They sail under Dutch flag, but when docking in US, they have to deal with US regulations which per state differs and also different ports have different regulations.... Wow... These ships are complete villages with hospitals, banks, waste recycling.... everything you would find in a small municipality.

They have 16 cruiseships each with their own offline LMS system. Each LMS synchronises every 24 hrs through satelite with the mother server on the main land in Seatle. They have hooked up their HR system with all peoples data with the shifts people have, coming on and off board.

They are using TATA interactive to build their computer based training done on board. When they pass this training they are promoted to go on the hands on training.
