Something that UBC shared with me and I want to share with you
Visit Last FM, a website that bills itself as the world's largest social music platform. It claims to be "Radio that learns what you like and gets better."
When you first bring up the Last FM page, you will see a text book that says "To start, type in your favourite artist". Take a moment to think about your favourite artist, type the name in and hit the "Play" button. Last FM will then find other artists and set up a "channel" with music that the system feels you might like.
Once the music starts to play, you can indicate that you love it (with the Heart icon) or that you never, ever (ever!) want to hear the song again (with the ban icon), and the system begins to refine your channel accordingly. You can also scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the various tags for different genre of music and listen to those channels. Last FM also allows you to see what other people are listening too, so take some time to explore the Users tags, giving some attention to the Groups, Friends, and Neighbour tabs taht you can access. You might also want to see if any of your friends are already using Last FM (even if you don't like their taste in music!).
If you want to dig a little deeper, you need to create an account (it is free), and once you are a registered user, Last FM starts to keep track of the music you like as well as the music you do not like. When you install the Last FM software client on your computer, you can ask it to scan your music library and that information will then help it to begin to fine-tune your preferences profile.
