Rob is in Nijmegen @ ISAGA 2007

ISAGA is the International Simulation And Gaming Association (see also http://www.isaga.com/). This is the 38th year of ISAGA with some 200+ people who all have an interest in games and simulations. Mainly Europeans but also some US people and a distinct group from Japan.

First day was opened by the mayor of Nijmegen, Thom de Graaf (see pic) who was part of the Dutch parlement recently but since 2005 followed his father foot steps in the role of mayor of Nijmegen.
I was in an all day session today about what makes a good game from different perspectives (client, designer, players, academics). I was in the group who discussed the client's perspective. And guess what... It looks a lot like a learning design process.... Business impact, transfer to reality (workplace learning), how to measure, engage, motivate...
End conclusion of this session really was to understand and listen to everybodies perspective so basically how to MANAGE EXPECTATIONS.
Still have a question in the back of my head.... When do you and when do you not use games? Will keep posting my findings throughout the week...
Cheers from beautiful Nijmegen (ask a dutch person for correct pronounciation).
P.S. Nijmegen celebrated its 2000th anniversery in 2005 and is considered the oldest city in the Netherlands.
