Talking about values ...

From the World Value Survey Group
Remember the discussion we had with Ann, Chris, Dee and Erin about values and being "The Director of Your Life"? - Well, the bookstore around the corner where I live has a great Atlas on European Values. It is a wonderfuld (but expensive) book that includes a reference to the graphic that you find here. What is being described - and challenged - is the idea of a common goal shared by mankind wanting to be 'The Director of One's Own Life". - The World Value Survey Group makes a distinction between the "Haves and the Have-nots". [Quote] 'The unprecedented wealth that has accumulated in advanced societies during the past generation means that an increasing share of the population has grown up taking survival for granted." Thus, for the "Haves" priorities have shifted from an overwhelming emphasis on economic and physical security toward an increasing emphasis on subjective well-being, self-expression and quality of life. For the "Have-nots" the picture looks different.
